O’Connell Street Bistro is on the corner of Shortland and O'Connell Streets in central Auckland and first opened its doors to diners in 1997. The cuisine is described by the team as “modern European bistro” and a high level of importance is placed on the provenance of the quality produce sourced by the Bistro. The restaurant has won numerous awards for its food and wines. O’Connell Street Bistro is owned by UK trained Chris Upton and his partner Amanda Mason. A fire in January 2016 caused O’Connell Street Bistro to be closed until September to undergo renovations.

In almost 20 years of operation, it has been recommended by many publications & voted Best Wine Experience in the Cuisine Magazine Restaurant of the Year Awards 2007, 2008 and 2014, and also named as one of the best 42 Restaurants in the World by Vanity Fair on Travel Magazine.
