Tepid Baths

Auckland's Iconic and Historic Swimming Pools

Once again a grand building after its refurbishment in 2012, 'The Teps' proudly shows glimpses of its past while being sleek, modern and again ready to train champions. Poolside cabanas and heritage-inspired tiling, which pay tribute to the baths’ almost 100-year history, feature alongside state-of-the-art gym equipment, and pump and filter systems.

Regardless of age or ability, you and your family are encouraged to learn to swim at the Tepid Baths. Everyone is welcome in their specially catered swim classes that range to meet individual abilities. Professional instructors will take you through a step-by-step programme that will give you skills and confidence to enjoy the water.

The stand alone gym is equipped with cutting edge cardio, and weight equipment. With the ability to watch Sky TV on the cardio machines, you can work out while keeping abreast of your favourite programs.

The Tepid Baths were originally built in 1914, and contained two separate pools: a "male" (25m, 6 lanes) and "female" (18m, 4 lanes). The "male" pool was the largest in New Zealand at the time. Heated with hot water from the nearby tramways power plant, the system was considered an engineering masterpiece of its time.
