ArtWeek in the City Centre took place in the heart of Auckland city centre from October 6-15, with an incredible line-up of exhibitions, installations, pop-ups and activations adorning public spaces, laneways, galleries and more.

Late Night Art

Late Night Art took place on Thursday October 12 from 5pm - 9pm. Private and public art galleries, the Ellen Melville Centre, Freyberg Place, O’Connell Street, Khartoum Place, the wider Aotea Arts Quarter and many of the laneways were activated with a fun-filled program including performances, markets, interactive installations and more across the whole evening.

Freyberg Steps reimagined

The iconic steps off High Street in the city centre were once again transformed with a colourful art installation called Rebirth, by artist Eduardo Tolentino Tan. They'll remain in place until the start of December - see more here

Changing Lanes 

City centre laneways in Chancery Square, Durham St East, Little High Street and Elliott Street were reimagined with large scale artworks. 

Unlocked Collections


Guided art walks and Unlocked Collections tours

These walking tours exploring diverse forms of art and creative expression in the city’s streets, squares, laneways, corporate towers, institutions and public buildings were once again hugely popular.

Performances and activations 

Lower Khartoum Place, Freyberg Square, Vulcan Lane and the Ellen Melville Centre came to life with live performances, DJs, artist workshops and more.
