Huami Bar

Tucked behind a bamboo screen on Federal Street, Huami Bar offers a sanctuary in the heart of the bustling inner city precinct. Sister to SKYCITY’s new Chinese restaurant Huami, it’s the ideal spot for a quiet drink or to start that big night ahead.

Taking you back to 1920s Shanghai, perch up at the bar, cosy up in a booth out back or take in the view at a table in front, all while enjoying a specialty cocktail or two.

Showcasing traditional Chinese flavours, the impressive cocktail list includes the Mandarin Sidecar, refreshingly spicy with fresh mandarin, cognac, Sichuan pepper and clove; the Royal 75, an elegant combination of lychee, gin and orange topped with perrier-jouët champagne; Open Sesame, an intriguing blend of sesame whiskey, salted maple, orange and ginger; and the Shanghai Sour, frothy with white rum, pineapple, maraschino and spiced grenadine.

The extensive wine list has been crafted by New Zealand’s only Master Sommelier Cameron Douglas in conjunction with Huami sommelier Marek Przyborek, and there’s a strong focus on Cognac, Armagnac and Whisky. Truly novel, there’s also a dedicated Old Fashioned menu allowing you to personalise this classic cocktail according to your palate.

Traditionally made with whiskey, bitters and sugar, the menu’s 120-odd variants include the finest cognac, gin, tequila, bourbon or dark rum, bitter notes of chamomile, orange, aromatics or chocolate, and for something sweet, tea-infused honey, salted maple, Chinese five spice, demerara or ginger and clove. Or do what most guests do and let the dapper barman whisk you away with exotic tastes and flavours.

Developed by Executive Chef Jeff Tan, Huami’s bold flavours and modern take on traditional Chinese cuisine can be enjoyed at the bar with the full à la carte menu available for lunch and dinner.

Or for something lighter so as not to take the focus off your liquid refreshment, the bar menu includes Huami’s show-stopping dim sum platter and pan-fried pork and leek dumplings with their crispy latticed wings. The crispy duck wontons, crunchy prawn dumplings, steamed barbequed chicken buns and spicy chili walnuts are also incredibly tasty.
