Celebrate the start of Chinese New Year by heading to Aotea Square and enjoying a free screening of Yellow is Forbidden, an inspiring story of Chinese dressmaker Guo Pei. Yellow is Forbidden is part of Auckland Tāmaki Makaurau’s outdoor summer cinema line-up this summer in Aotea Square. Come early to secure your spot, bring a picnic rug, have a bite to eat, and catch the pre-movie entertainment.

This documentary, by New Zealand filmmaker Pietra Brettkelly, is a modern day Cinderella story where the brave, diminutive and daring heroine’s dream doesn’t end at the ball. Come and watch the story of Guo Pei as she dreams of high fashion and her work being recognised as haute couture.

Parents, please do not drop off or leave your children unsupervised at this event. Please note, you cannot BYO alcohol to Summer in the Square. The Terrace Café and Hello Sailor will be open and selling both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as tasty eats and treats.

$2 per hour to a max of $12 on weekends and a $12 flat rate for weekday evenings at The Civic car park. Find out more
