Bright Nights - Viaduct Harbour

A stunning light experience will bring Viaduct Harbour to life from 6pm to late on Friday 11 until Sunday 13 May.

The experience, curated by award-winning artist Angus Muir, comprises more than a dozen light installations inspired by the theme of clean seas and sustainability.

The lighting trail will weave its way through the Viaduct Harbour hospitality precinct, starting at the former America’s Cup boat, KZ1 outside the New Zealand Maritime Museum, and finishing at Waitematā Plaza.

Located in Market Square, Fortune Fountain is an interactive art work by Puck Murphy, Conrad Wedde and Olivier Jean proffering a contemporary interpretation of the mythical wishing well. Based on the proverbial notion of water embodying deities, the installation provides a dynamic visual reaction to coins being tossed into the water, with all proceeds going to the charitable trust.

At KZ1, Undersail will see the 1998 America’s Cup Challenger Yacht projection mapped with a vision of mesmerising sea life conceived by Creature Post’s Lakshman Anandanayagam together with collaborating audio artists.

The New Zealand Maritime Museum will all also participate in the event, offering a performance piece titled Light Ships by Sarah-Jane Blake.

Audio will play a key part in the overall experience, with Square Dance Discotheque, a central installation by Perceptual Engineering that will see the audience participate via headphones in an interactive silent disco-experience.

Futuristic Vospertron performers together with other artist installations including Angus Muir’s own Burrow, Waterfun, Squiggle and iconic Mountain of Light will see Viaduct Harbour rendered in colour and sound to dazzling effect.

Viaduct Harbour’s hospitality scene will be buzzing with special offerings including visiting purveyors Karma Coffee and glow-in-the-dark gelato by Lalele Organic that will form part of an experiential UV room.

The experience is free and suitable for all ages.
