After three centuries, Handel’s Messiah still captivates audiences. With its beautiful melodies that transcend its biblical text, it speaks to us of hope and rebirth after the struggles of life and darkness.

An annual, much looked-forward to Christmas tradition for many, Messiah was originally performed as an Easter oratorio. Since its first performance in Dublin 1742, Messiah has been used as a means for charitable fundraising, and as generosity and giving tends to be greater during the Christmas season, performances of Messiah in December eventually became the norm.

Auckland Choral is delighted to bring you this work of dazzling soloists, rousing choruses and instrumental fireworks, celebrating with hope and inspiration for the coming year.
