Waitemata Plaza

on the waterfront's edge

Located at the water's edge this square bridges Wynyard Quarter and the Viaduct. The area is undergoing change with a series of trials to test its use in future.

Having had an incarnation as an urban beach complete with sand and deck chairs or sun loungers, the public space has also seen a red carpet, and seating along with the Pride and Joy ice-cream vendor.

The area is regularly used for boot camps, people stretching or doing yoga and is home to the cytoplasm sculpture by New Zealand sculptor Phil Price and moves in the wind, as one of his many large scale wind-activated kinetic works.
