What's On in August: Your Entertainment Guide

This August, make the most of the foodie events, festivals, family-friendly activities and more taking place in the city centre.

American Express Restaurant Month
1-31 August

The city centre's favourite foodie event of the year is back this August! With over 100 participating restaurants involved with menu offers and 25 special events, eat your way around the city centre this month and take the chance to try something odd, new or an old favourite.

The Curious Food Festival
18 August, Shed 10

This brand new food festival is one of the headline events of American Express Restaurant Month, with more than 12 city centre restaurants creating their most imaginative and delicious dishes alongside superb wine from Negociants & Church Road, sparkling goodness from S.Pellegrino and no fewer than seven craft breweries offering up intriguing brews for the day to quench your thirst and pique your curiosity plus plenty of exciting entertainment acts.

Wynyard Quarter's 7th Birthday
4 August

Your favourite waterfront precinct is turning seven and to celebrate there's a whole day of free activities to entertain the whole family. Greet the sun with sunrise tai chi, hop on board the Auckland Tram for a sing-along with the Dixie band, join the circus with Cirque Du Silo, and bring your blankets and picnics to watch a movie at Silo Cinema!

25 August - 2 September, The Civic

Sweat Shop Brew Kitchen's First Annual Brewfest
4 August

Join head brewer Paddy Molloy as he hosts a showcase of craft beers from Auckland and beyond – meet the brewers, chat (and drink) all things beer, enjoy food matches, enjoy exclusive merchandise to purchase on the day and live entertainment by White Chapel Jak.

Gordon Walters: New Vision
Until 4 November, Auckland Art Gallery

This exhibition at Auckland Art Gallery is a major retrospective of one of New Zealand’s foremost modern artists and offers a rare opportunity to experience the full spectrum of Walters’ sophisticated abstraction with more than 130 artworks on display.

Go For Gold - Sky Tower opens its doors for charity
3 August

Celebrate the Sky Tower's birthday with entry just a gold coin donation per person and all proceeds going to Youthline. Enjoy a fun day of family friendly activities including DJ, face painting, dancers, Scotty Sky Tower and giveaways, it’ll be a party atmosphere – and it’s all for a great cause.

New Zealand Fashion Week
27 August - 2 September, ANZ Viaduct Events Centre

New Zealand’s premier fashion event, New Zealand Fashion Week (NZFW) will return this August, bringing the sort of energy and glamour that only comes from being the biggest week on the NZ fashion calendar.

30 August, Commercial Bay, Lower Queen Street
