Valentine’s Day is coming up on the 14th of February and we have you covered for all the best date night ideas in the city. With stunning waterfront walks, award-winning eateries, world-class desserts, incredible events and fun activities - this Valentine's day will definitely be one to remember.

Spend the evening looking over Auckland City | SKYCITY 

Impress your date by taking them 53 floors up the Sky Tower to The Sugar Club by Peter Gordon. It's not just views that are swoon-worthy - the food is just as good, showcasing seasonal New Zealand produce like wild venison and South Island monkfish. Enjoy complimentary Sky Tower access, a glass of rosé on arrival, and a seven-course tasting menu. From 5.30pm-9pm, $195 per person. Vegan and vegetarian menus are available on request.

Head to an outdoor movie | Silo Park 

Share a magical evening with your Valentine watching The Princess Bride at Silo Park’s outdoor cinema. Bring along something comfy to sit on and warm to cuddle up with, while watching the classic fairy tale. There will be yummy food available at the food trucks and love potions available at the bar. Food and drinks are available from 5.00pm, with the movie starting at 9.00pm.

Dinner at Ima Cuisine followed by dessert from Giapo | Fort St and Gore St 

Spend the night dining at Ima Cuisine. Enjoy the middle eastern inspired recipes on the evening menu, whilst in a cheerful and rustic environment, but be sure to leave some room for some of Giapo’s extravagant desserts, located just around the corner from Ima’s.

Dine at award-winning Cassia | Fort Lane 

Show your Valentine how special they are by taking them out for dinner at Cassia, an award-winning restaurant hidden away in Auckland’s Fort Lane. They serve contemporary Indian cuisine using fresh local produce and spices sourced from India. Try their set dinner menu, featuring the tandoori chicken with fenugreek and lemon, it’s a crowd favourite.

Check out the pink lights of the Viaduct Harbour 

The Viaduct Harbour hospitality precinct is set to turn pink from this Wednesday 13th February until the end of the week, launching its new LED fairy lighting in time for Valentine’s Day. The tree lighting project completed by resident lighting designer, Angus Muir, has been unveiled in a hot pink hue matched by the adjacent sea wall light show and flag banners, a tribute to the romantic celebrations.

Enjoy the sunset over drinks at Parasol and Swing Company | The Viaduct 

Watch the sunset from Parasol and Swing Company rooftop bar. Not only does the popular hangout offer spectacular views overlooking Auckland's Viaduct Harbour - they also have an extensive drinks menu. From housemade cocktails to boutique wines and some of the countries best craft beers, the rooftop will leave a great impression this Valentine's Day.

Visit an art installation followed by a walk along the waterfront | New Zealand Maritime Museum 


Carving Water, Painting Voice, Kazu Nakagawa, Image: Ben Journee, Side Project 

Take your date along to the Carving Water, painting voice installation created by Kazu Nakagawa, with Helen Bowater. The collaborative exhibition at the Maritime Museum creatively brings sculpture, music, poetry and topology together to explore themes of human migration and identity. Following the must-see exhibition take a stroll along the waterfront surrounded by beautiful ocean views. The cost is free with museum entry, which is also free Auckland residents with proof of address. Open 10am - 5pm daily. 

Head to a comedy show followed by treats at OKO dessert | Aotea Square  

Laugh the night away with a line-up of hilarious acts at the Comedy Club on Queen Street, and once you’re done pop over to OKO Dessert kitchen and try some of their world-class desserts. Tickets are $10 at the door.  Door sales only. Hours: Sun - Thu: 10am - 8pm. Fri - Sat: 10am - 11pm. 

Dumplings and dessert | Britomart 

Treat your date to handcrafted dumplings and seasonal cocktails at Xuxu’s, a cosy little dumpling bar in Britomart. For dessert, pop down to Milse, tucked away in one of Britomart's laneways. Try their Valentines special made up of Manjari chocolate spheres filled with passionfruit jelly with caramelia ganache and passion thyme gelato.

Enjoy live music at Besos Latinos | Elliot Street 

Celebrate Valentine's Day with a Brazilian Jazz Night at Besos Latinos. Live music will be playing all night long from 7pm. $145 per couple includes a 4-course gourmet dinner and a glass of champagne on arrival. 

Become tourists for the evening and hop on a kiwi Tuk Tuk

Performing on Valentine's Day at St Mathew-in-the-City, The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra will play two of the best-loved pieces of baroque music ever written. Head along for a unique musical experience that promises to be spectacular - The Baroque Series follows the NZSO’s sold-out baroque concert Back to Bach in 2018.

Treat your special someone to dinner at DeBretts Kitchen. Their exquisite three-course menu also includes a champagne cocktail on arrival. $85 per person.
