A selection of leading New Zealand artists have activated the city centre's laneways, reference Auckland's unique heritage and signal the changing nature of the city's urban spaces and potential future use of the sites. There's an incredible range of exhibitions on display during Artweek to check out, too many to count in fact. Check out our guide to exhibitions this year here, but a few special mentions must go to Guerilla Girls at Auckland Art Gallery, Hugo Koha Lindsay at Gow Langsford Gallery, The Shouting Valley at Gus Fisher Gallery and Nori 놀이, an interactive and playful Korean art exhibition at the Ellen Melville Centre.
This hugely popular after hours event is one you absolutely can't miss. From quirky art pop ups to performances, a micro food and art festival that is StreetArtDego and galleries open late, there's a spectacle for all to see on Tuesday October 15, from 5-9pm. Peruse at your pleasure and enjoy the different activations as you wander: have your portrait drawn by the Quick Draw sketch artists, or even join in on the live tattoo activation.
Explore the city centre's vibrant art scene by joining a free guided tour taking you through the streets, squares and laneways. This year there are five tours taking place in the city centre, focusing on urban design, architecture, street art, waterfront art, and Aotearoa-inspired art.
