Trains in Auckland

Getting around central, east, west and south Auckland

Trains are a great way to get around central, east, west and south Auckland.

Britomart Train Station

The Britomart Train Station is a transport hub for the city centre and all trains servicing the city centre arrive and depart from here. Plus there are many bus services departing and arriving nearby the station and it is also close to the ferry terminal.

Timetables and services

Refer to the Auckland Transport website for schedules and news about services.

Fares and AT HOP cards

Fares can be paid using an AT HOP card or cash for single-trip paper tickets.

The AT HOP card is a reusable prepay smart card for travel on trains, ferries and buses around Auckland.

Discounts and concessions are available for day and monthly passes, and for children, students and accessible passengers. Senior citizens can travel for free on trains and selected bus and ferry services in Auckland, after 9am weekdays and all day weekends and public holidays with an AT HOP card loaded with a SuperGold public transport concession. See the AT website for more information about fares and discounts.

Fares are calculated based on how many zones you travel through, rather than how many buses or trains you take.

Electric trains

Auckland's electric trains make rail travel more attractive. The trains are faster, quieter and more energy-efficient, featuring the latest developments in technology and safety.
