A spectacular lighting experience at Viaduct Harbour

Attracting more than 63,000 visitors in 2018, Viaduct Harbour is thrilled to announce the return of Bright Nights, the immersive lighting experience taking over the waterfront precinct from 8-12 May 2019.

The immersive public event will see the Viaduct Harbour transformed into a visual wonderland, with an estimated 100,000 visitors expected to weave their way through the extended line-up of luminary installations. The underlying theme of this year's event is sea life and sustainability. Key highlights visitors can look forward to are:

  • An underwater masterpiece titled Monstrum Marina by special effects studio Creature Post, animating Viaduct Harbour’s marina
  • The return of the immensely popular Silent Disco presented by Spark & Spotify on Te Wero Island, featuring award-winning Kiwi musician Ladi6
  • The Vector Lights sustainable light show on the Harbour Bridge each evening during the event - a smart-energy partnership with Auckland Council.
  • Crank Zappa - a giant interactive jellyfish conceived by Australian duo Amigo and Amigo.
  • A workshop with Viaduct Harbour’s Seabin Project which will allow guests to thread and hang ‘plastic chandeliers’ mimicking Crank Zappa’s tentacles, an opportunity to educate and create using sea litter.

Taking place from 8th to 12th May, the trail has almost doubled in length since its 2018 debut, with guests being treated to more than a dozen interactive displays from both local and international artists. Bright Nights 2019 will end on the Sunday (Mother's Day) with a thrilling fireworks display.

A free event for all ages, visitors are encouraged to embark on Bright Nights via one of the two trails starting via Waitemata Plaza at Customs Street East, or outside the Viaduct Events Centre on Halsey Street, both of which land in the heart of Viaduct’s hospitality hub, forming the intersection of the two immersive trails.

Bright Nights at Viaduct Harbour is live from 6-10pm each night from 8-12 May 2019.
