Rhys Mathewson at the Classic

As part of the NZ International Comedy Festival, writer and comedian Rhys Mathewson, the winner of both the prestigious Fred and Billy T Awards, is returning to the Classic with his new standup show.

Previous Comedy Festivals have seen Rhys tapdance, fashion a lyrca unitard and tear his hamstring while attempting a highkick. While it may not be classic standup, it’s classic Rhys. This year, Rhys is stepping it up a notch and attempting to take things seriously – touching on how being self-employed isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, how Lance Armstrong is as important as the environment, and what it means to be Polynesian. Or it might just be a show about how at some point in the future, he wants to wear white pants. We’ll see how it plays out.

Rhys’ charm and self-deprecating humour combined with his perfectly delivered one-liners and physical presence have established him as a comedic force among his local and international peers.
