Coley & Punch
Nestled between central city favourite Euro and new bar and eatery The Culpeper, Coley & Punch is a cocktail and whisky bar focused on fine beverages from around the world.
This new addition to Auckland’s Princes Wharf gets its name from the best-known female bartender of all time, Ada ‘Coley’ Coleman. Head bartender at the American Bar in the Savoy Hotel, London from 1903-1926, Coley was a familiar face to thousands of guests from around the world including many of the top actors, celebrities, royals and millionaires of the day.
Naturally, the Coley & Punch cocktail list includes Coley’s most famous cocktail creation The Hanky Panky, created - legend has it - for a celebrated actor of the time Sir Charles Hawtrey who requested something with “a bit of punch”.
Ranging from the classic to the inspired, other enticing creations on the cocktail menu include the C&P margarita with house infused pineapple tequila and pink peppercorns; Espresso Martini with citrus, vanilla and homemade gingerbread syrup; and the Charlie Chaplin, staying true to the 1920s original with its intoxicating aroma of apricots, stone fruits and a bright edge of citrus.
With the back bar a veritable treasure trove of rare, aged and hard to find spirits, Coley & Punch is also home to an impressive 250-strong whisky selection.
The spectacular views of the Waitemata Harbour and a sumptuous interior featuring dark woods, leather and brick from another era makes Coley & Punch the perfect pre- or post-dinner stop for cocktail connoisseurs and whisky lovers alike.
