The First Monday in May
4 days of fashion
in the city.
Over 25 events not to be missed.
As part of 4 Days of Fashion in the City, Auckland Art Gallery will be hosting a special free screening of The First Monday in May on Thursday 30 March.
An unprecedented look behind the scenes of two of New York’s premier cultural events, The First Monday in May follows the creation of the most attended fashion exhibition in the history of The Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the 2015 Met Gala, the star-studded fundraiser that celebrates the opening of the exhibition. Acclaimed filmmaker Andrew Rossi (Page One: Inside the New York Times) follows Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine and longtime chair of the Met Gala, and Andrew Bolton, the iconoclastic curator who conceived the groundbreaking show, for eight months as they prepare for an evening they hope will take the worlds of art and fashion by storm.
Featuring legendary film and fashion creatives including Wong Kar Wai, Baz Luhrmann, Karl Lagerfeld, Jean Paul Gaultier and André Leon Talley, and intimate access to contemporary pop icons like Rihanna, THE FIRST MONDAY IN MAY explores whether fashion should be viewed as art and captures the creativity, passion, and inspiration behind the exhibition and gala.
Please note that seating will be allocated on a first come, best choice basis and bookings will not be taken. Entry to the theatre is via the clock tower on the corner of Wellesley Street and Kitchener Street. Doors will open at 5.30pm and the film will start at 6.00pm.
