3 November, 2016

Silo Cinema is back for their sixth season with a brand new selection of films. Pick your favourites from the programme below and start planning out your Friday nights down at Silo Park this summer.

Friday 13 January
What We Do In The Shadows

Friday the 13th is Freaky Friday at Silo Park, with the amusing antics of the undead in NZ's own mockumentary horror comedy, What We Do In The Shadows. Written by, directing and starring Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, there'll be ghoulish surprises and the perfect excuse to get dressed in your most frightful threads.

Friday 20 January
Diarios de motocicleta (The Motorcycle Diaries)

The second slice of world cinema for the season is Diarios de motocicleta, from Brazilian director Walter Salles. This award winning masterpiece follows Ernesto 'Che' Guevara's journey from Brazil to Peru by motorcycle, where he witnesses the great disparities in South America, affecting him in life-changing ways.

Friday 27 January
Monty Python's Life of Brian

Continuing the tradition of The Mayor's Movie in this sixth season, Monty Python's Life of Brian will deliver plenty of signature absurdity and laugh-out-loud moments to kick off Auckland Anniversary weekend. There will also be a Silo Sessions musical extravaganza on Saturday 28 January, with very special guests to be announced.

Friday 3 February
Hunt for the Wilderpeople

The first February film is Taika Waititi’s much loved adventure comedy about defiant city kid Ricky who gets a fresh start in the New Zealand countryside with Aunt Bella, cantankerous Uncle Hec and dog Tupac.

Friday 10 Feb
Timbuktu

Another edition of World Cinema, this time curated by the African Film Festival, New Zealand. Watch this international arthouse favourite from Mauritanian director Abderrahmane Sissako about a cattle hearder and his family living peaceful in the dunes of Timbuktu until suddenly they find their quiet lives disrupted.

Wednesday 14 February
The Princess Bride

Looking for Valentine’s Day date ideas? Don’t miss this special midweek screening. Robin Wright and Cary Elwes start in this fairytale adventure about a beautiful princess and the gallant hero who rescues her from an evil villain.

Friday 17 February
Field of Dreams

When a corn farmer in Iowa starts hearing voices, he interprets them as a command to build a baseball diamond in his fields. He does, and the Chicago White Sox come. A mix of fairy tale, baseball, and family togetherness.

Friday 24 February
The Gods Must Be Crazy

Set in the Kalahari Desert, this 1981 box-office hit is a story of a Bushman and a Coca-Cola bottle. Dropped from a passing plane, the foreign object causes fighting amongst the villages, until the tribal leader decides it must be returned and embarks upon a journey to the ‘end of the world’.

There's plenty more exciting Silo Park summer announcements to come, so keep an eye out on our Facebook page for updates over the next few months.
