Restaurant Month 2016
We've wrapped up another delicious Restaurant Month with spectacular highlights including our renowned Chef Dining Series, new events and mouthwatering special menus from over 100 central city eateries.
Check out what we loved the most this Restaurant Month:
Our big foodie festival at Shed 10 was as amazing as always with mind blowing street food from some of the central city's top chefs. With entertainment and activities for the kids this was a fantastic day out for the whole family.
Chef Dining Series
A Taste of Federal Street at MASU
For the third Restaurant Month running, the chefs from the big 4 restaurants of Federal Street united to cook in the award winning MASU dining room. This night represented the pinnacle of Auckland’s dining scene, with four delicious courses from Sean Connolly of The Grill, Nic Watt of MASU, Al Brown of Depot and Neil Brazier of The Sugar Club.
A Taste of Pope Joan at Odettes
Chef-patron of Melbourne’s Pope Joan, Matt Wilkinson, previously of Vue de Monde and Circa the Prince, is a generous chef with a passion for quality seasonal produce, disguising considerable wealth of knowledge and skill with a tremendous knack for not taking anything too seriously. Odettes was the perfect setting for this night of big, beautiful dishes that featured fresh produce front and center.
A Taste of Momofuku Seiōbo at The Grove
A truly international night with the head chef from a huge brand in the dining industry worldwide, we were thrilled to welcome Paul Carmichael of Momofuku Seiōbo to The Grove. He stunned diners with big and bold Caribbean-influenced flavours - our favourite was the mouthwatering crayfish.
A Taste of Grossi Florentino at Ostro
We were so excited to welcome a 'My Kitchen Rules Australia' chef to the central city. Guy is firmly regarded as an Australian food icon and has been recognised by the Italian president for his international service to cucina Italiana. His teaming up with Josh Emett did not disappoint with gorgeous fresh pasta, moreish suckling pig and decadent Italian desserts.
A Taste of Osteria Mozza at Soul Bar & Bistro
The queen of Californian Italian cuisine graces Soul Bar & Bistro. What a night this was with fresh Burrata flown in for the event, handmade pasta, the best butterscotch dessert we've ever tasted and so much more.
Nothing For Dinner at Misters
We joined the clever food hackers from The Cult Project (Will & Carlo, both formerly of Matterhorn amongst other impressive restaurants) in their journey to create a sumptuous dinner made out of what was otherwise going to waste.
The Big Cheese at The Grill by Sean Connolly
We made all of our cheese dreams come true and this over-the-top, delicious, indulgent event at The Grill.
Dinner in the Dark
This was something completely different for us - a dinner, in pitch black darkness. No gimmicks, no blindfolds, no fancy goggles – thanks to a team from Blind Sport New Zealand learning the art of table service specifically for the event, this evening went off without a hitch. Vivace created a sensory revelation of a menu and we loved the portion of the evening dedicated to guessing what the menu was!
The Social Kitchen™ Theatre by Fisher & Paykel
This incredible new series took Restaurant Month to the streets, with an unmissable series of pop-up experiences at Britomart’s Takutai Square including masterclasses from some of the city's top chefs including Josh Emett, Ben Bayly and a class from Momofuku Seiōbo's Paul Carmichael.
Raise The Bar
Sometimes the food at our fine-dining restaurants is so awesome we forget just how magic the bars at these venues are. This was a chance to try a delicious drink plus appetiser for just $25 at restaurants like Clooney, Harbourside, FISH and more.
