We celebrated Christmas in 2016 with our favourite central city traditions and some brand new festive events.

Here are some highlights from the 2016 central city Christmas line-up:

The LEGO Christmas Tree
Brand new to Auckland in 2016, the LEGO Christmas Tree lit up Aotea Square during December, with a light and sound show each evening and free LEGO Build workshops for the little ones.

Christmas Decorations in the Central City
Santa was back in 2016 on the corner of Queen Street and Victoria Street East, along with his reindeer.

Christmas at Silo Park
The ever-popular Silo Cinema returned for another season in December, with their annual Christmas Film playing on Friday 23 December. Silo Cinema sessions continue in January, offering a great night of free entertainment for the family.

Silo Cinema is a magical spot to visit over the Christmas season with weekly movies, markets and delicious eats.

Christmas markets around the city
Along with boutiques, flagships and unique nooks you won't find anywhere else in Auckland, the central city has some excellent markets. The Britomart Day Out was a highlight on the Christmas calendar in 2016, plus we loved the pop-up markets at Chancery Square and Wynyard Quarter.
